From the parallel games of group B, the game of the German team was shown. Three games of the preliminary round were broadcast by Sport1 , including the parallel game on the last match day, which was not shown live by ZDF. The broadcast of the final game on ZDF achieved a new rating record for the FIFA Confederations Cup on German television with 14.69 million viewers (market share: 42.7%) .

Austria

In Austria the games were broadcast by the public television channels ORF eins and ORFSport + .

Switzerland

In Switzerland, the television broadcaster SRF two broadcast all the games. Rainer Maria Salzgeber and Matthias Hüppi were engaged as moderators, Sascha Ruefer and Dani Kern as commentators .

Cue ball

The official match ball was made by Adidas , as it was at the world championships and was named Krasava at this tournament , which means “beautiful” in Russian. In addition to the white cue ball, there was an orange winter ball for the first time, which should also be recognized when it is snowing. The technology and structure were based on the 2014 World Cup model , but only six congruent panels were now used.

Shirt supplier

Adidas (Germany, Russia, Mexico), Nike (Australia, Chile, Portugal, New Zealand) and Puma (Cameroon) were the three suppliers of the eight participants.

The design of the logo is based on the trophy of the Confederations Cup. A fire bird , a magical creature from Slavic mythology, is depicted on the cup . In addition to the bird, there are several windows that are supposed to create a connection with the logo of the 2018 World Cup . They show the transformation of the firebird into a fireball, which can be seen in the World Cup logo. Eight red dots are visible in the base of the cup; they represent the eight participating teams. The dominant Russian national color is red .

Opening and closing ceremonies

Before the first game of the tournament, hundreds of singers and dancers performed in the St. Petersburg stadium in just under half an hour. At that time, however, the stadium was still largely empty. In addition to an overview of Russian history and culture, the four venues were also presented. The theme of the celebration was based on the ballet The Firebird . Before the game started, Russian President Vladimir Putin and FIFA President Gianni Infantino each gave a speech.

A closing ceremony lasting around twenty minutes took place in the run-up to the final. The presentation took up the culture, history and art of the St. Petersburg venue . Motifs from the Confederations Cup , its previous winners and the participating teams were also incorporated.

Impact on the FIFA World Ranking

The tournament brought about some changes in the FIFA world rankings . Winner Germany returned to first place after two years (previously third place). Final opponent Chile , who only won one regular game in the tournament, lost three places and fell back to 7th place. This is due to the fact that three games, including the semi-final against Portugal, which was decided on penalties, ended in a draw. In addition, the Chileans lost in preparation in Romania and only achieved a 1-1 draw in a friendly against Russia. Third place Portugal improved by four (now 4th), fourth Mexico by one place (now 16th).

Of the teams eliminated in the group stage, Australia gained three places (now 45th) and Russia one place (now 62nd), while Cameroon lost four (now 36th) and New Zealand even 27 places and fell to 122nd place.
