This article covers the Australian national football team at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup . Australia is taking part in the Confederations Cup for the fourth time and qualified by winning the 2015 Asian Cup . In the three previous participations, Australia was qualified as Oceania champion.

Squad

On May 30, Australia coach Ange Postecoglou nominated the squad with 23 players.

Tim Cahill , Mitch Langerak (without commitment), Mathew Leckie , Massimo Luongo (without commitment), Ryan McGowan , Mark Milligan , Mathew Ryan , James Troisi and Bailey Wright (without commitment) were already in the squad for the 2014 World Cup . With Dylan and Ryan McGowan there are two brothers in the roster.

Besides the Mexican Rafael Márquez, Tim Cahill is the only tournament participant who took part in the 2005 tournament in Germany .

On June 12, Mile Jedinak was replaced by James Jeggo . Defender Brad Smith had to withdraw with injuries the day before ; he was replaced by Alex Gersbach .

preparation

In preparation for the tournament, the Australians met Saudi Arabia on June 8th in Adelaide as part of the World Cup qualification and won 3-2. On June 13th they lost 4-0 against Brazil in Melbourne .

In group B, Australia met South American champions Chile, world champions Germany and Africa champions Cameroon, who were the last to qualify for the tournament after the group draw. There were previously five games against Germany, three of which were lost. One friendly game each ended in a draw and was won. There were also five games against Chile before, only the first of which ended in a draw in the 1974 World Cup, but the others were lost. There has been no game against Cameroon before.
