Ajdin Hrustic (born July 5, 1996 in Melbourne ) is an Australian national football player who plays for FC Groningen in the Eredivisie .

Career

Hrustic, whose parents come from Bosnia and Romania , was born in Melbourne in 1996 , where he started playing football in the suburb of Heatherton in 2004 . He spent his other youth in England, where his parents moved to in 2010, Austria, Germany and the Netherlands. At Schalke he won the West German championship together with Leroy Sané with the U-17 team. For the U-19 team of Schalke 04 he could not play for a long time due to an injury. In 2014 he switched to FC Groningen . In 2015 he received his first professional contract in the Netherlands. However , he did not play his first game in the Eredivisie until April 1, 2017 in a goalless draw against AZ Alkmaar , after having only sat on the bench in seven games since February. 15 days later he scored his first first division goal.

National team

In August 2013 he received an invitation for the U-19s of Bosnia and Herzegovina and in February 2014 he was appointed to a course for the U-19 selection of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In March 2017 he was appointed to a training camp in Spain for an Australian development team with 17 to 22-year-old players, most of whom play in Europe . On March 24, 2017, he played for the U-23 team against the U-21 team of Austria.

On May 30, 2017, Australia coach Ange Postecoglou nominated him as the youngest player in the 23-player squad that represented Australia at the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup . He was one of three players who were still without an A international appearance when they were nominated. On June 13, he came on in the 57th minute in the 4-0 draw against Brazil for his first appearance for the senior national team . In the tournament, which ended for Australia after the three group games, he was not used.

In January 2018 he took part with the U-23 team in the Asian U-23 championship in the People's Republic of China, but retired with the team after the group stage.

In October 2019, he was used in two qualifying games for the 2022 World Cup .
