Azor Matusiwa (born April 28, 1998 in Hilversum ) is a Dutch football player of Angolan descent. He is under contract with FC Groningen and is a young Dutch national player.
Career
society
Azor Matusiwa started playing football at HSV Wasmeer in Hilversum, North Holland, near Amsterdam , at the age of five and moved to Almere City FC in 2011 at the age of 13 . In 2013 he went to the Ajax Amsterdam academy . On November 21, 2016, Matusiwa played for the reserve team for the first time in a 2-2 away game in the second Dutch division against the second representative of FC Utrecht . After he had outgrown the youth teams at the end of the 2016/17 season, he played for the first time for the professional team in the Eredivisie on May 6, 2018 in a 2-1 away win against Excelsior Rotterdam , with Azor Matusiwa in the starting line-up. In the first half of the new season he was only used three times in the reserve team due to a performance injury.
For the second half of the 2018/19 season he switched to BV De Graafschap on loan . From the beginning, Azor Matusiwa was one of the regular players and made 16 appearances. With BV De Graafschap he qualified for the promotion and relegation play-offs, in which the club from the Achterhoek relegated in the final round against Sparta Rotterdam after a 2-1 away win and a 0-2 home defeat and thus the gear had to compete in the second division. He did not return to Ajax for the 2019/20 season, but instead joined FC Groningen . Matusiwa signed a contract with a term of over four years. Here he is mostly used as a defensive midfielder.
National team
Azor Matusiwa played seven times for the Dutch U16 national team . In November 2019 he was part of the Dutch U21 squad for the first time , but was not used.
Personal
Azor Matusiwa's father is an Angolan refugee and both he and his family were granted residence permits in 2005. Azor's older brother Diangi is also a soccer player.
