Kaj Sierhuis (born April 27, 1998 in Athens , Greece ) is a Dutch football player . The striker played for Ajax Amsterdam in his youth and made his first competitive game for the professional team in 2018. He has been playing on loan at FC Groningen since the beginning of 2019 . Furthermore, Sierhuis is a young Dutch national player.

Kaj Sierhuis was born in Athens on April 27, 1998 when his father Cock was president of AEK Athens football club . The family returned to the Netherlands when Kaj was four years old.

Career

society

Kaj Sierhuis had started playing football at WSV '30 in Wormer , North Holland , before moving to the youth academy at Ajax Amsterdam . In August 2016 he received a professional contract and from November 2016 he was initially used in the second team. This season he also continued to play for the A-youth in the championship and in the UEFA Youth League . In the 2017/18 season, Sierhuis, meanwhile outgrown the youth teams, was not always part of the regular formation, but scored 14 goals in 20 appearances and became second division champion with the second substitute for Ajax, but was not allowed to advance. Sierhuis played his first competitive game for the professional team on July 25, 2018 in a 2-0 win in the first leg in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League against SK Sturm Graz .

After he had only made two appearances in the Eredivisie , he was awarded to FC Groningen with a purchase option during the winter break of the 2018/19 season until June 30, 2020 . He quickly fought for a regular place and qualified with FC Groningen for the play-offs for participation in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League . There, the Groninger were eliminated in the first round against Vitesse Arnheim .

National team

Kaj Sierhuis played three games for the Dutch U16s (two goals), and played his only game for the U18s on March 24, 2016 in a 2-0 defeat in a friendly against Russia in Lisse, South Holland . Kaj Sierhuis made ten appearances and four goals for the Dutch U19 national team . For the U20 ( Beloftenelftal ) he played eight games (two goals). On November 16, 2018, Sierhuis made his debut for the Dutch U21s after a 3-0 defeat in a friendly against Germany in Offenbach am Main .
