Ligue 1 2018/19

The Ligue 1 2019/20 (official name of the sponsor Conforama Ligue 1 2019/20 Conforama was) the 82nd season in the highest French football -Spielklasse of men. It opened on August 9, 2019 with the game of AS Monaco against Olympique Lyon , the last games took place on March 8, 2020. Due to an order from the French government , the season was declared over at the end of April 2020 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic . The championship title was awarded to championship leaders and defending champions Paris Saint-Germain .

Effects of the coronavirus pandemic

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in France , the LFP only announced in mid-March 2020 that all games would be played behind closed doors until at least April 15th, but then finally stopped playing "until further notice". At the end of April 2020, the association announced that it would finally end the season. As a result, Paris Saint-Germain was declared national champion because of the highest point quotient, while SC Amiens and FC Toulouse had to relegate. The distribution of the international starting places has not yet been regulated. Olympique Lyon officially appealed the decision and asked for damages. As seventh in the table, the club had missed qualification for international competitions for the first time in over 20 years. The two designated relegated members also took legal action. A Paris civil court, however, declared that it was not responsible and referred the plaintiffs to the Conseil d'État , the highest administrative court.

Before the Conseil d'État, Lyons' lawsuit was finally dismissed and the association asked to reconsider the relegation regulation. The general assembly of the league association decided with 74.49 percent of the vote the descent of SC Amiens and FC Toulouse.

Since Paris Saint-Germain and Racing Strasbourg had played one game less than the other participants, a quotient regulation was necessary to determine the final placements. The points were divided by the number of games played. In the event of a tie, the following rule applies:

  • 5th / 6th Place: OGC Nice / Stade Reims: Addition of the first and second leg, 2: 0 and 1: 1 for Nice
  • 7th / 8th / 9th Place: Olympique Lyon / HSC Montpellier / AS Monaco: Goal difference
  • 12./13. Place: Girondins Bordeaux / FC Nantes: Addition of the first and second leg, 2-0 and 1-0 for Bordeaux
  • 14./15. Place: Stade Brest / FC Metz: Goal difference
  • 16./17. Place: FCO Dijon / AS Saint-Étienne: Goal difference

Paris Saint-Germain was declared champion, SC Amiens and FC Toulouse relegated. The allocation of the international starting places was decided after the league cup final.
