(a) The maximum number of spectators allowed for league games is determined by the association before the start of the season.
(b)Ajaccio and Bastia have to play their respective home game against each other due to riots in the previous season outside of Corsica and behind closed doors. In the first half of the season they met in Fos-sur-Mer ( Stade Parsemain ).
(c) Nice played their first two home games at the Stade du Ray, the first of them against Rennes because of crowd riots last season in camera.
(d) The stadiums in Saint-Étienne and Marseille will be expanded while the game continues (to 41,500 and 65,000 seats respectively) and will therefore only have a reduced capacity.
(e)The league association LFP had deducted two points from AS Monaco in June 2013 because of the burning down of Bengalos , the storming of the field and an attack on the referee at the last home game in 2012/13. There is also a closed- door ghost game . Due to Monaco's objection, the point deduction was withdrawn, but a game without spectators was confirmed and played against Toulouse on the third matchday.

Eleven of the first half of the season

By the end of October, the defending champions Paris and the promoted Monaco teams, which were unanimously declared top favorites due to their high investments, had settled at the top of the table together - and still unbeaten. Only Lille with an almost insurmountable defense around goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama (nine of his eleven games without conceding) had been able to keep up with them. Behind them were the other climbers Nantes and Guingamp; on the other hand, Lyon, which with one exception (4th place 2011/12) had always finished on a podium since 1998/99, was only in the lower midfield at this point. The relegation ranks took Ajaccio, Sochaux and Valenciennes, who had only ever managed one victory to date.
After completion of the first half of the season, the respective constellation had solidified at the top and bottom of the table, with Paris winning the unofficial title of autumn champion and the "draw kings" from Montpellier (eleven draws in 19 matches) were increasingly in danger of relegation. During the first half of the season, six clubs, five of them from the relegation zone, resorted to the supposed "panacea" of a coach change: Pablo Correa at Évian-TG, Daniel Sanchez at Valenciennes, Éric Hély in Sochaux, Fabrizio Ravanelli in Ajaccio, Jean Fernandez in Montpellier and Élie Baup in Marseille had to leave early. According to a UEFA study, Ligue 1 is particularly “coach-friendly” compared to Europe's other top divisions.

The Union Patronale des Clubs Professionnels de Football (UCPF), the association of French professional football clubs , had decided to protest against the planned introduction of a 75% " wealthy tax " in 2014, which would also affect footballers with an annual income of more than one million euros to completely boycott the scheduled matches (15th matchday of Ligue 1 and 16th matchday of Ligue 2) on the last weekend in November 2013, but this decision was revised three weeks later and the action was postponed to a later date.

Since the start of the second half of the season, Paris has clearly set itself apart from Monaco; Lille could no longer keep up with either of them but kept his own pursuers at bay. It was more exciting in the relegation zone, where Sochaux and, initially, Valenciennes, could again hope for relegation to the Évian TG - after all, one of only three teams that have been able to defeat Paris -, Guingamp and for a long time Rennes had to fear increasingly. Ajaccio was arithmetically the first relegated after 34 matchdays, Valenciennes two rounds later. The question of the third relegated team, however, was only decided on the last day of the match in a direct duel between Sochaux and Évian TG, which the “Liga- Dino ” lost. In the battle for the championship and European Cup places, Paris prevailed confidently against Monaco, which in turn relegated Lille to third place on the podium by a clear margin. Also internationally, Saint-Étienne, cup winner Guingamp and - because the league cup winner (Paris) will compete in the Champions League - Lyon will be represented in fifth place, while Marseille once again missed this goal.

With the second division champions FC Metz , Racing Lens and SM Caen , three clubs are returning to the footballing upper house for the coming season, none of which are newcomers there.
