Salvatore Sirigu started his professional career in 2006 with the US Palermo . There he could not prevail for the time being and was awarded to third division US Cremonese for the 2007/08 season . He was able to fight for a regular place at the club and at the end of the season placed with the team in second place in the Girone A in the C1 series . In the play-off games for promotion to the second highest division, the team met in the semifinals on the US Foggia , against which they were able to prevail in two games. The finals against AS Cittadella were lost after a 1-0 win in the first leg, in the second leg Sirigu received three goals and lost 3-1 with the team.

After the promotion to Serie B was missed, the goalkeeper returned to Palermo and shortly after changed again on loan the club. This time he was awarded to the second division AC Ancona for the 2008/09 season . He made his debut on August 30, 2008 in a 2-2 draw in the away game at FBC Treviso for Ancona. He played a total of 15 league games and conceded 24 goals. As 19th in Serie B, the club met Rimini Calcio in two relegation games to avoid relegation . After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Ancona won the second leg in Rimini 1-0 and thus secured themselves the league. Sirigu was not used in the two games, however, the Brazilian goalkeeper Angelo Esmael da Costa Júnior took over his duties in the Biancorossi goal .

For the 2009/10 season , the goalkeeper finally returned to his home club in Palermo. Within a short time he earned a regular place in the goal of the Sicilians and prevailed against his older rivals Francesco Benussi and Giacomo Brichetto .

In the summer of 2011 he moved to the French first division club Paris Saint-Germain . On March 16, 2014 Sirigu completed his 100th league game for Paris Saint-Germain.

In August 2016 it was awarded to the Spanish first division club Sevilla FC . After only half a year the loan was ended and another loan to Seville's league rivals CA Osasuna followed .

Sirigu moved to Turin in the summer .

National team

Sirigu played in various Italian junior selections and was also appointed to the squad of the Italian U-21 selection for the U-21 European Football Championship in 2009 . He was not used in the tournament because Andrea Consigli was preferred to him. After he had become a regular at Palermo during the 2009/10 season, he was called up for the first time for the Squadra Azzurra for the friendly international match on March 3, 2010 against Cameroon . During the game he stayed on the bench, Federico Marchetti guarded the goal for the full duration of the game. On August 10, 2010 Sirigu made his debut in the Italian senior team in the friendly international match against Ivory Coast .

He took part with the Italian national team at the World Cup in Brazil and was in goal in the first group match against England for goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon ; Italy won the game 2-1. In the two remaining group games Buffon was in goal; Italy dropped out of the tournament early after two defeats.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included as a substitute goalkeeper in the Italian squad . In the third round game against Ireland, when Italy was already the group winner, he represented Buffon for 90 minutes. It was his only mission. Italy initially prevailed against Spain in the second round , but were eliminated by Germany in the quarter-finals .

After moving to Seville, where he was only a substitute goalkeeper, he had initially lost his place in the national team until he was nominated again for the friendly match between Italy and Saudi Arabia .
