Mërgim Vojvoda (born February 1, 1995 in Hof , Germany ) is a Kosovar - Belgian football player .
The defender currently plays for the Italian first division club FC Turin . He is a member of the current squad of the Kosovar national soccer team .
Career
Vojvoda was born in Hof. When he was two years old, his parents had to return with him to Kosovo, where civil war was raging at the time. After staying there for a year, Belgium allowed them to be reunited because there were other relatives living there. As a teenager he played for Standard Liège. As part of his first professional contract, he was used in the reserve team.
In the 2014/15 season he was on the then in the second division gambling VV St. Truiden borrowed. In the following season there is a one-year loan to FC Carl Zeiss Jena , which played in the Regionalliga Nordost , the fourth-highest German division. This loan was brokered by Roland Duchatelet, at the time both the main investor in Standard Liège and in FC Carl Zeiss Jena.
At the beginning of the 2016/17 season he moved back to Belgium to Royal Excel Mouscron . At the end of May 2019, his move to Standard Liège for the 2019/20 season was announced after the two clubs had reached an agreement. In the 2019/20 season, he played 25 of 29 possible games for Standard until it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
At the end of August 2020, he moved to Italy for Turin FC , where he signed a contract with a term of four years.
National team
Vojvoda took part in qualifying matches for the U21 European Championship 2017 for the Albanian U21 national team. After Kosovo was officially admitted to FIFA and UEFA in May 2017, he will no longer play a game for Albania. Vojvoda had his first international match for Kosovo on June 11, 2017. Due to a lack of athletic qualifications, there have been no appearances at European and World Championships.
