Career

In the club

In 2006, Izzo moved from ARCI Scampia to the youth team at SSC Napoli , where he was active until 2011. In the same year he was accepted into the professional squad, but awarded directly to the US Triestina in the Lega Pro Prima Divisione . During the loan valid until December 1, 2011, Izzo completed 13 games for Triestina and scored one goal. After his return, there were no concrete plans for him in Naples and so he was sold to AS Avellino 1912 on January 1, 2012 for 90,000 euros . In the second half of the 2011/12 season , Izzo made six more appearances.

In the following season Izzo was able to establish himself as a regular player. In the championship season, which was associated with promotion to Serie B , he completed 22 games and scored one goal. Also in his first second division season Izzo was a regular Avellinos. He ran on in 30 games and scored another goal, in addition, relegation was achieved.

Due to his performance, the first division club CFC Genoa signed Izzo on July 14, 2014 for 200,000 euros from Avellino. In his premier season in the highest league in Italy Izzo came to a total of 20 games, with one hit. At the end of the season, Genoa had secured participation in the third qualifying round for the 2015/16 Europa League , but was not allowed to compete due to the lack of a UEFA license.

In the national team

Due to his good performance in the second half of his first season at CFC Genoa , Luigi Di Biagio surprisingly appointed him to the squad for the U-21 European Football Championship 2015 in the Czech Republic . However, he remained without use and the Azzurrini were eliminated in the group stage .

In November 2016, Izzo was appointed to the squad of the Italian national team by national coach Gian Piero Ventura , but remained without action.

Style of play

Despite his relatively short height of 1.83 meters, Izzo plays in central defense . He is considered to be a robust and two-way defender who is also successful in header duels due to his high jumping ability.
