Samir Ujkani (born July 5, 1988 in Vučitrn , SFR Yugoslavia ) is an Albanian - Kosovar football player . He plays in the position of goalkeeper .
Club career
His parents left Vučitrn in the 1980s and Ujkani grew up in Belgium . First he played in the lower teams of RSC Anderlecht and even became Belgian champion with the U-19s. It was there that scouts from the US Palermo discovered him , who soon signed him. He has a five-year contract with the Sicilians until 2012. Ujkani was third goalkeeper behind Marco Amelia and Alberto Fontana at the beginning of the 2008/09 season , but became second goalkeeper after Fontana was demoted and came on April 26, 2009 with a 0: 3 Loss against AC Milan on substitution for his Serie A debut. For the 2009/10 season he was loaned to Novara Calcio to collect match practice. At the end of the season he rose to Serie B with the club . The loan period was extended for another season in July 2010. For the 2012/13 season Ujkani returned to Palermo. In 2015 he moved to CFC Genoa and, after not being used, was awarded to US Latina in the second division in the winter , where he became a regular goalkeeper.
In the summer of 2016 he moved again on loan, this time to AC Pisa . After his loan season at AC Pisa, he went to US Cremonese . For the 2018/19 season, Ujkani moved to the Süper Lig for promoted Çaykur Rizespor . Here he played only one game away in the first half of the season against Trabzonspor , where he came on in the 1: 4 defeat at halftime for the injured Gökhan Akkan . From the winter break he only played in the club's second team.
After his contract was terminated during the following summer break, he joined Torino on September 2, 2019 , where he acts as a substitute goalkeeper for Salvatore Sirigu .
National team
Samir Ujkani got an invitation from both the U-21 team of Belgium , as well as the Albanian and opted for Albania. He played his first international U-21 game against Italy , which ended with a 4-0 defeat. Ujkani, who is considered to be a great goalkeeper in Albania, was appointed to Albania's senior national team for the World Cup qualifier against Hungary on October 11, 2008 . Ujkani made his international debut on June 10, 2009 in a friendly against Georgia , in the following months he was in goal in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in the games against Denmark (1: 1) and Sweden (1: 4). After losing his regular place to Etrit Berisha , he decided to play for the Kosovar football team in the future .
