The competition for the Coupe de France in the 2015/16 season was the 99th edition of the French football cup for men's teams. The defending champion was Paris Saint-Germain FC .

During the third and second division clubs as well as eleven participants from seven French overseas territories already in the regional subdivisions of the National Association French Football Federation (FFF) had to intervene organized qualifying rounds in the competition - the third division in the fifth, the two The latter groups in the 7th round - for the first division team - and possibly a lower-class defending champion - the competition only began with the thirty-second finals (start of the main competition). Only in this round were the 64 qualified clubs nationwide divided into four regional pots of 16 teams each, in which approximately the same number of teams from the same league affiliation were represented. From the sixteenth finals on, this sorting was also dropped and the competition was held exclusively according to the classic cup mode: matches were drawn from all clubs still in the competition without seed lists and only one game was played at the end of which a winner had to be determined (even if it was through Extra time and penalty shoot-outs) who then qualified for the next round while the loser was eliminated. The home rights were also determined by lot for each match, but with the restriction that clubs that had to compete against an eleven playing at least two league levels above were automatically given home rights.

The lower-class clubs also fought for the title as the most successful outsider, which was associated with cash prizes. This side competition, which is currently mainly sponsored by PMU , is officially called Classement des Petits Poucets (in German: "Däumlingsprüfung"). As the only seventh division ( Division d'Honneur Régionale or DHR) the Jeunesse Sportive Saint-Jean Beaulieu from Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat / Beaulieu-sur-Mer was able to qualify for the thirty-second finals; the same has been achieved by a team from France's overseas possessions with the US Sainte-Marie from La Réunion . The lot then brought the two only remaining contenders for this title, two fifth division teams, directly together in the sixteenth finals; the winner, US Granville , then even reached the last eight participants.
