The Union Sportive d'Avranches Mont-Saint-Michel or US Avranches for short is a football club from Avranches , a small town in the French department of Manche .

history

The originally multi-sport club was founded in 1897 as Union Sportive d'Avranches . The association carried this name until 1990, when it adopted its current name, in which it refers to the city's proximity to the Michelberg . He joined the Union des sociétés françaises de sports athlétiques early on. For the first 90 years of the club's history, its footballers played in lower-class regional leagues; It was not until the early 1990s that the US Avranches came after several promotions in the highest national amateur league, from which they were relegated in 1992. She achieved this third class again a good 20 years later. In doing so, she enjoys the support of the local economy in the 8,000-inhabitant community, which means that she was able to increase her 2014/15 season budget to around 1.5 million euros.

The club colors are blue and white. The club's league team now plays its home games at the Stade René-Fenouillère , which has a spectator capacity of 2,000, including 600. The coach since 2015 is Damien Ott , who previously coached league rivals SR Colmar for seven years .

League affiliation and achievements

The club has never had professional status and has not played first-class ( Division 1 , renamed Ligue 1 since 2002 ). In 2014, he was promoted to the semi-professional third division , with the US Avranches winning the title of French amateur soccer champion in 2014 as the best of the four CFA group winners.

Even in the state cup competition , she has not had much success so far. For the first time in 1990/91 and then from 2004/05 to 2014/15 another seven times, the club made it to the top 64 teams in France. However, he did not get beyond this first national main round in any of these events. This changed in the 2016/17 cup season with the move into the quarter-finals.
