Avenir Sportif Béziers is a football club from the city of Béziers in the south of France ; Avenir Sportif means sporty future in German . The club is usually referred to as AS Béziers for short , but this can easily lead to confusion with the Association Sportive de Béziers , which has a long tradition in this sport , operates under the same abbreviation and is particularly important in the 21st century due to its rugby department .
history
Avenir Sportif was created in 2007 from the merger of three local clubs, namely Avenir Sportif Saint-Chinian , the Football Club Béziers Méditerranée and the Railway Club Béziers-Méditerranée Football Cheminots . The fighting teams of all three clubs played at the time of merging in the fifth and sixth leagues , and the union should also serve a "concentration of forces". The takeover of the initials ASB from its predecessor, which was dissolved in 1990, was quite deliberate.
The club attaches great importance to youth work in both boys and girls. The club's own football school (école de foot) is certified by the French Football Association , and the youth teams of Avenir Sportif Béziers have won a double-digit number of regional titles.
The club colors are red and blue like the colors of the city of Béziers. The league eleven plays their home games in the venerable Parc des Sports de Sauclières , which has a capacity of around 12,000 spectators, 2,600 of whom are seated in a grandstand.
League affiliation and achievements
For the 2007/08 season, the newly formed club took over the place of AS Saint-Chinian in the fifth division, rose from it at the end of the season and returned another twelve months later. 2010 followed the promotion to France's highest amateur league ( CFA ), in which the ASB stayed for five years. In 2015, he made it into France's third division for the first time in the club's short history .
In the national cup competition for the Coupe de France , Avenir Sportif has never reached the national main round (matches from the thirty-second finals) up to and including the 2014/15 draw.
