Palmarès

The Palmarès [ palmaˈʀɛs ] denotes in Swiss High German (Latin-French origin) a list-like ranking, a list of successes or a list of winners.

The word is used in a variety of meanings, in which the individual list items can appear disordered, chronologically or sorted according to other criteria. Among other things, the list is called palmarès

  • the winner of a competition (e.g. a film festival or a science award ),
  • the sales success of an artist (e.g. a writer or musician ),
  • the top rankings of an athlete (e.g. a footballer or cyclist ) and
  • the best based on a certain criterion (e.g. the most beautiful cities, the most renowned universities or the most successful stocks ).

The term, which comes from French , has also been used in other European languages, especially through cycling , e.g. B. Italian and Romanian , found widespread.
