Stade Montois versus LOU in Lyon (2005)

Stade Montois is a rugby union club from the French city of Mont-de-Marsan in the Landes department . He is represented in the second-highest league Pro D2 and plays his home games at the Stade Guy-Boniface . The greatest success is the championship title in 1963.

history

Although Stade Montois is a multi-sport club with 28 different departments, rugby union has always been by far the most important. After winning several regional titles in the interwar period, the team reached the national top in the 1940s. In 1949 Stade Montois was in the championship finals for the first time. The game against Castres Olympique ended in a draw 3: 3 after extra time, which is why a week later a repetition was due; but this one then lost with 3:14.

In 1953 and 1959 Stade Montois reached the final again, but lost to FC Lourdes and the Racing Club de France . Between 1960 and 1962, the prestigious Yves du Manoir Challenge was won three times in a row . In 1963 Stade Montois was again in the final, won against US Dax and won the first and so far only championship title. The club was no longer of great importance, but the junior division produced numerous famous national players.

The league team of the association football department reached the national main round in the cup competition (Coupe de France) several times . With Jacques Foix , a later national player emerged from it, who in 1949, while still at Stade Montois, was European junior champion with the French A-youth selection . In 2013/14 the Montois footballers, who play their home games at the Stade de l'Argenté, compete in the fourth division .
