history

The association was founded on September 26, 1907. At the beginning the club colors were black and garnet red; The latter was exchanged for orange in 1912. In the same year Narbonne became regional champion of the Languedoc . In the First World War , 24 of the club's players were killed. In 1932 Narbonne advanced to the championship finals for the first time, but lost to Lyon Olympique Universitaire . In 1933 there was another defeat in the final, again against the same club. In 1936 the RC Narbonne won its first championship title, in the final AS Montferrandaise was defeated.

In 1946 Narbonne was relegated to the second division, but managed to get promoted again in the following season. For many years, the club was not particularly convincing. It wasn't until 1964 and 1968 that Narbonne made it back to the semi-finals of the championship. Also in 1968 there was the first overall victory in the prestigious Challenge Yves du Manoir . Further overall victories in the Challenge followed in 1973, 1974, 1978 and 1979. In 1974 Narbonne was defeated in the final of the AS Béziers championship , but won the championship title for the second time in 1979 with a victory over Stade Bagnérais .

The RC Narbonne has never been a champion since then, but was able to achieve numerous important successes. In 1984, 1989, 1990 and 1991 the club won the Challenge and the French Cup in 1985. At European level, the RC Narbonne reached the final of the European Challenge Cup in 2001 , but lost to the Harlequins from London . At the end of the 2006/07 season Narbonne was relegated from the top 14 league .
