history

Reading Stadium was inaugurated on August 22, 1998. The stadium is named after the entrepreneur John Madejski , the club president of Reading FC. It is located on the southern outskirts of the city near the M4 motorway and was created on the site of a former landfill . Ventilation fans are embedded in the ground around the stadium to remove the rising methane gas . The cost of construction was around £ 50 million . Since 2007 the playing field has consisted of a natural turf reinforced with embedded artificial turf fibers and was laid by Desso Sports Systems . In this process, around 20 million artificial fibers are placed 20 cm deep into the ground over the field. The cost of the artificial green was around £ 750,000. 128 places for wheelchair users are distributed throughout the stadium. The 4-star Millennium Madejski Hotel Reading is part of the stadium complex .

In the 2006/07 season, Reading FC was represented for the first time in the Premier League . As a result, the stadium was almost always sold out. In order to meet the increased demand, the association planned to add at least 10,000 more seats.
