The Loftus Road (officially Kiyan Prince Foundation stage ) or Rangers Stadium is a football stadium in the British capital London , United Kingdom . The Queens Park Rangers football club has played its home games here since 1917.

history

Loftus Road Stadium was inaugurated on October 11, 1904 and is located in West London, in the Shepherd's Bush district . From 1904 to 1915 it was the stadium of Shepherd's Bush FC . After the club was dissolved, the Rangers took over the venue two years later , having played their games in 14 different locations since it was founded in 1882.

Loftus Road offers 18,439 seats; these are exclusively seats. These are distributed over identical stands at the back of the gate, in the east the Loftus Road Stand , opposite in the west the School End , which serves as a guest area. The main stand is located on the north side of the pitch and is called the South Africa Road Stand , analogous to the street behind it . The grandstand consists of two tiers and houses all stadium facilities, such as the cabins, the boxes, the ticket office and the club shop. Opposite the South Africa Road Stand is the Ellerslie Road Stand , which, unlike the main stand , is only one tier. Due to the limited space available, the stadium is extremely compact in terms of construction. Loftus Road was the first stadium in British professional football to receive an artificial turf called Omniturf in 1981 . In 1988 it was removed again. In 1985 Irish boxer Barry McGuigan fought at Loftus Road Stadium for the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight championship , defeating defending champion Eusebio Pedroza from Panama . On September 2, 2017, a charity soccer game called Game 4 Grenfell was played in the loft . The proceeds went to those affected by the fire in Grenfell Tower .

There have been several sub-tenants on Loftus Road in the past. So who denied Fulham during the reconstruction of the Craven Cottage its home games at the QPR (2002-2004). The London Wasps , a rugby team, were also at home on Loftus Road from 1996 to 2002. Since then, however, the Queens Park Rangers have been the sole hosts again.

Surname

In April 2019, it was announced that the Queens Park Rangers are planning to give the name of their home ground to a local charity. Fans could submit proposals until May 3rd. It was the first name change in Loftus Road's over a century history. The result was known on June 7th. The vote was won by the Kiyan Prince Foundation with 63 percent of the vote. The Rangers' venue has been officially named Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium since that season . Kiyan Prince was a talented youth player for the Queens Park Rangers and was seriously injured by a knife on May 18, 2006 at the age of 15 by a 16-year-old boy while trying to prevent a fight with another boy. He was taken to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel by a police officer who found him . Kiyan Prince died there two hours later. In early 2007, his father, former professional boxer Mark Prince , founded the non-profit organization Kiyan Prince Foundation (KPF) to fight knife crime and other forms of youth violence .
