The Pride Park Stadium (usually just called Pride Park ) is a football stadium in the Pride Park business park on the outskirts of Derby city center in England . The stadium is owned and operated by Derby County football club , which plays its home games here. It seats 33,597 spectators.
history
Pride Park was completed in 1997 and replaced Derby County's previous stadium, the Baseball Ground , which was home to the Rams from 1894 on . It was officially opened on July 18, 1997 in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II ; the first game was on August 4, 1997, a friendly against Sampdoria Genoa , the Derby lost 0-1. The first competitive game was a game against Wimbledon FC , during which the floodlights went out and the game had to be abandoned.
On November 13, 2013 it was announced that Derby County had sold the naming rights to the stadium to the sports drinks manufacturer iPro Sport . The sponsorship deal ran for ten years and brings the club seven million pounds sterling (8.3 million euros). The sports facility was officially named iPro Stadium for the first time on December 7, 2013 when it played against Blackpool FC . The contract expired at the end of 2016 and was not extended. After that, the stadium got its original name back in January 2017.

So far, the English national team has played an international match at Pride Park , a friendly against Mexico , which England won 4-0 on May 27, 2001. This game also holds the stadium's attendance record with 33,597 spectators (sold out). The highest number of spectators to date to a game in Derby County is 33,475 in a friendly on May 1, 2006 against the Glasgow Rangers .
