The Football League Championship 2006/07 was the third season of the English Football League Championship and also the 15th season of the top division of the Football League - after the introduction of the Premier League - as only the second highest English league. The season began on August 5, 2006 with the opening game between Luton Town and Leicester City (final score: 2-0). As a climber came Southend United , Colchester United and Barnsley FC to. Birmingham City , West Bromwich Albion and AFC Sunderland were relegated from the Premier League last year , thus completing the field of 24 teams.
