The Football League First Division 2001/02 was the tenth season of the Football League First Division as only the second highest English football league and 99th second division season overall. It started on August 11, 2001 and ended on May 12, 2002.

Manchester City won the championship , which also secured participation in the 2002/03 Premier League season . Behind runner-up West Bromwich Albion , Birmingham City also rose to the Premier League as a playoff winner. Crewe Alexandra , Barnsley FC and Stockport County had to relegate to the Football League Second Division .
