The Football League Second Division 1899/1900 was the eighth season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . The Wednesday became second division champions . In addition to the club from Sheffield, the second-placed Bolton Wanderers also rose to the Football League First Division and both clubs returned to the elite league after just one year in the second division. The two first division clubs Burnley FC and Glossop FC, which are ranked in the table below, took the places for the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1900/01 .

Luton Town and Loughborough FC had to relegate from the Second Division . In addition, FC Barnsley feared to remain in the class, but then received enough votes in the re-election process of the league association to be allowed to participate again in the Second Division in the following 1900/01 season. The places of Luton and Loughborough took the newly promoted FC Blackpool and Stockport County .
