The Football League Second Division 1964/65 was the 62nd season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 22, 1964 and ended on April 28, 1965.

Second division champion was Newcastle United and also rose to second-placed Northampton Town in the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1965/66, the two first division clubs Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City ranked in the table below . Swindon Town and Swansea Town had to relegate from the Second Division to the Football League Third Division . Instead of the two clubs, the third division winner Carlisle United and the third division champions Bristol City took the vacant positions in the following season 1965/66 .
