The Football League Third Division 1964/65 was the 38th season of the Football League Third Division as the third highest English football league . Third division champion was Carlisle United and also the second-placed Bristol City rose to the Football League Second Division . For the two promoted teams in the following third division season 1965/66, the two second division clubs Swindon Town and Swansea Town ranked in the table below took the places. Luton Town , Port Vale , Colchester United and Barnsley FC had to relegate from the Third Division to the Football League Fourth Division . Instead of these clubs, the Fourth Division champions Brighton & Hove Albion and the FC Millwall , York City and Oxford United placed behind them took the vacant positions in the following season 1965/66 .
