The Football League Third Division 1965/66 was the 39th season of the Football League Third Division as the third highest English football league . Third division champion was Hull City and also the second-placed Millwall FC rose to the Football League Second Division . For the two promoted teams in the following third division season 1966/67, the two second division clubs FC Middlesbrough and Leyton Orient (from 1966 "FC Orient"), ranked in the table below, took their places. Southend United , Exeter City , Brentford FC and York City had to relegate from the Third Division to the Football League Fourth Division . Instead of these clubs, the fourth division champions Doncaster Rovers and behind them FC Darlington , Torquay United and Colchester United took the vacant positions in the following season 1966/67 .
