Football League Third Division 1957/58

The Football League Third Division 1957/58 was the 31st season of the third highest English football league . The division, which is divided into the north and south, had Scunthorpe & Lindsey United and Brighton & Hove Albion, their two champions and at the same time promoted to the Football League Second Division . For the two promoted teams in the third division season 1958/59, the two second division clubs Notts County and Doncaster Rovers, ranked in the table below, took the places. Due to the merging of the two squadrons into a from now on only single-track third division, only the teams that ranked further up to 12th place were allowed to remain in the league. The remaining clubs formed the Football League Fourth Division , which was newly founded in 1958 . The lower-placed north clubs FC Southport and Crewe Alexandra and in the south FC Millwall and Exeter City had to face a re-election process of the league association, but each received enough votes to be allowed to participate in the fourth division in the 1958/59 season.
