The Football League One 2009/10 was the sixth season of the English Football League One , at the same time the 18th season of the second highest division of the Football League after the introduction of the Premier League and 83rd third division season overall. Third division champions were Norwich City and next rose the second-placed Leeds United and after play-off successes against Huddersfield Town and Swindon Town, the third-placed Millwall FC in the Football League Championship .

The three second division clubs Sheffield Wednesday , Plymouth Argyle and Peterborough United, ranked in the table below, took the places for the three promoted teams in the following third division season 2010/11 . From Football League One, Gillingham FC , Wycombe Wanderers , Southend United and Stockport County had to relegate. Instead of these four clubs, the fourth division champions Notts County , behind them AFC Bournemouth and AFC Rochdale and the play-off winners Dagenham & Redbridge took the vacant positions in the following season 2010/11 .
