^ Football League Second Division 1920/21
The Football League Third Division 1920/21 was the first season of the third highest English football league . Third division champion was Crystal Palace , which also rose as the only club in the Football League Second Division . Relegated from the Third Division had none and the Reading FC , the FC Brentford and the FC Gillingham received in the re-election process of the League Association sufficient number of votes to be able to participate in the following season 1921/22 again in the Third Division. The third division split into two seasons from the 1921/22 season. These included the Football League Third Division North , which initially had 20 clubs, and the Football League Third Division South with 22 participating clubs. Therefore, in addition to the relegated second division Stockport County , 20 newcomers came to the third division, all of which, with the exception of two clubs, formed the new northern season (Stockport County and Grimsby Town were added).
