The Football League Third Division 1970/71 was the 44th season of the Football League Third Division as the third highest English football league . Third division champion was Preston North End and also the second-placed Fulham rose to the Football League Second Division . The two second division clubs Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers, which are ranked in the table below, took the places for the two promoted teams in the following third division season 1971/72 . From the Third Division in the Football League Fourth Division dismount had the Reading FC , the FC Bury , the Doncaster Rovers and Gillingham FC . Instead of these clubs took in the following season 1971/72 the fourth division champion Notts County and the behind placed AFC Bournemouth (until 1971 "Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic"), Oldham Athletic and York City the free positions.
