The Football League Second Division 1970/71 was the 68th season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 15, 1970 and ended on May 4, 1971.

Second division champion was Leicester City and also the second-placed Sheffield United rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams, the two first division clubs Burnley FC and Blackpool FC, which are ranked in the table below, took the places in the following second division season 1971/72 . The Blackburn Rovers and the Bolton Wanderers had to relegate from the Second Division to the Football League Third Division . Instead of the two clubs, the third division winner Preston North End and the third division champions FC Fulham took the vacant positions in the following season 1971/72 .
