^ Football League First Division 1904/05
The Football League Second Division 1904/05 was the 13th season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . Second division champions were Liverpool FC and the second-placed Bolton Wanderers also rose to the Football League First Division . Since the first and second division were increased to 20 participating teams in the 1905/06 season, no team rose from the first to the second division. The Doncaster Rovers had to relegate from the Second Division . In addition, Burslem Port Vale and Burton United were worried about staying in the class, but then received enough votes in the reelection process of the League Association to be allowed to participate again in the Second Division in the following 1905/06 season. The following five newcomers took up the five free places in the following year: Chelsea FC , Hull City , Leeds City , Stockport County and Clapton Orient .
