Gainsborough Trinity (officially: Gainsborough Trinity Football Club ) - also known as The Recreationists - is an English football club from Gainsborough , East Midlands, which has played in Conference North , the sixth-highest division in England, since 2004 . The club's venue is The Northolme , which has 4,304 seats .
Club history
The club was founded in Gainsborough , Lincolnshire in 1873 as Trinity Recreationalists . The club played in the Midland League from 1889 to 1896 and was then included in the Football League Second Division , the second highest division in English football at the time. The club played continuously from 1896 to 1912 in professional leagues, since then Gainsborough has played in the level of non-league football . The club won the Midland League championship in 1928, 1949 and 1967. As one of the founding members of the Northern Premier League , the fifth highest division in England at the time, the club played in the same league until 2004. Gainsborough could not have any notable success there and was eliminated early in the cup competitions.
