Northern Premier League

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Northern Premier League is an English football league and, together with the Southern Football League and the Isthmian League, forms the seventh and eighth level of the English league system .

Game class structure

The Northern Premier League currently organizes the operations of three divisions. This is the premier division as the seventh highest division in England and the parallel division One North West and Division One South East located below it . The Premier Division champion is automatically promoted to the National League North . The teams placed two to five take part in the play-offs, in which the second promoted to the National League North is determined.

history

The league was founded in 1968 as the northern counterpart to the Southern Football League , which had existed since 1894 , and at that time formed the highest league level of non-league football. After the formation of the Alliance Premier League , today's National League , the division was set back one league level.

The champion is automatically promoted to the National League North at the end of a season . The teams classified between two and five take part in the play-offs , in which the second promoted to Conference North is determined. The four last-ranked teams in the league are relegated to Division One North or Division One South and are replaced by the four promoted teams.

When the top teams of the individual associations merged to form the Alliance Premier League in 1979 , the league association's gaming operations were downgraded by one rank in the league system.

1988 from the Northern Premier League , the One Division established itself as a base. When the Football Conference in 2004 also introduced a second division as a substructure, the Northern Premier League was reset to the seventh division.
