history

The FC Altrincham was founded in 1891 under the name FC Broadheath , in 1903 the renaming followed. In 1978 the club won its first national title when they defeated Leatherhead FC in the FA Trophy final. A year later, the club was one of the founding members of the Alliance Premier League , today's Football Conference. In the first two years, the team won the championship, as no automatic promotion to the Football League was foreseen, the club was still the league. In 1986 he won the FA Trophy again. The successes could not be repeated, only in 1991 - in the meantime the promotion had been introduced for the top of the table - he played for promotion, after a weak season end he missed the Football League as third in the table.

In 1997, FC Altrincham was relegated to the Northern Premier League , and two years later they were relegated again. In 2005, the club returned to the Football Conference and made headlines there. At the end of the 2005/06 season, 18 points were deducted from the club on a non-relegation zone because a player who was not eligible to play had been used. However, since Canvey Island FC had withdrawn from the league and Scarborough FC was revoked for a violation of the statutes regarding club owners, the club remained in the league. In the following two seasons, the club was relegated, but again profited from the mismanagement of the competition - in 2007 Boston United received no license, in 2008 Halifax Town withdrew after financial problems - and remained in the league. After several midfield places, the club finally rose again in 2011. After winning the playoffs of the Conference North in the 2013/14 season, Altrincham started again in a fifth-class season in the 2014/15 season. Both 2015 and 2016, the team suffered relegation, played a season in the seventh-class Northern Premier League before being promoted back to the National League North.
