history

In 1921 Halifax was one of the founding members of the Football League Third Division North and played there until 1958.

Five years later, the club rose from the Football League Third Division to the fourth division and from then on played mostly in the fourth or fifth division. In 1969, the Shaymen under coach Alan Ball (the father of 1966 world champion Alan Ball ) rose again to the third division and stayed there until 1976 again in the third division. In 1993 Halifax was even relegated to the fifth division and had relegation worries there for a long time until 1997/98 when they were promoted again. 2001/02 was followed by relegation, back to the 5th division (Conference). There the Shaymen played regularly for the advancement and failed u. a. 2006 only in the second play-off round.

Before the 2007/08 season, 10 points were deducted due to licensing problems and the club played against relegation for a long time, but managed non-relegation on the last day of the game. However, the club owed around £ 2 million to various creditors, had over £ 800,000 in tax debt and was forced to relegate to the Unibond League Division One North due to the large debt burden.
