The FC Boreham Wood (official: Boreham Wood Football Club ) - also known as The Wood - is a football club from the English town of Borehamwood , Hertfordshire . The club, founded in 1948, played in amateur leagues until 1974, then in the Isthmian League for over 30 years . In 2015 the club was promoted to the National League , the top division in non-league football .
history
A team called Tunnel United is said to have existed in Borehamwood as early as the 1880s , and a team called Boreham Rovers appeared for the first time after the First World War . The club disbanded in 1939 with the outbreak of World War II. During the Second World War there was a U18 team under the name Boreham Wood Swifts , which disbanded in 1946 when a large number of the players were called up for military service. After the end of the fighting, the Boreham Rovers were re-established for the 1946/47 season, in 1947 the club was renamed Boreham Wood , and in 1948 they merged with the Royal Retournez , a team formed from war returnees, which was also the official founding date of the current one Association applies.
Boreham Wood initially played in the local Mid-Herts League, from 1952 onwards they played successively in the Parthenon League , Spartan League and Athenian League , all of which were amateur leagues. In the 1973/74 season the club was champions of the Athenian League and reached the first main round of the FA Cup for the first time . After the separation of professionals and amateurs was lifted, they joined the Isthmian League in 1974 , where they played until 2004, when they were assigned to the Southern League for two years for geographical reasons . In 2006 they rose as champions of the eight-class Eastern Division of the Southern League to the Premier Division of the Isthmian League, and in 2010 they were fourth in the table via the play-offs (2-0 final win over FC Kingstonian ) and were promoted to the six-class Conference South . There they stayed in the middle of the table for the following seasons, in 2015 they reached the play-offs as runner-up, in which they defeated FC Whitehawk 2-1 in the final and rose to the National League . 2018 was Boreham Wood as a table Fourth of Final Ranking in the ascension play-offs, first sat down against AFC Fylde and Sutton United through, but lost the final in Wembley Stadium to Tranmere Rovers 1: 2, although after a sending off in the first minute of the game played the entire game in the majority. They were also successful in the FA Cup 2017/18 , in which they reached the second main round for the third time after 1996/97 and 1997/98.
