The Football League First Division 1992/93 was the first season of the Football League First Division as only the second highest English football league and 90th second division season overall. It began on August 15, 1992 and ended on May 9, 1993.

Newcastle United became second division champions , and second-placed West Ham United also rose directly to the Premier League . In addition, Swindon Town prevailed in the play-off games against the Tranmere Rovers and in the final against Leicester City and thus became the third promoted team. From the Premier League in the following second division season 1993/94 the three at the bottom of the table Crystal Palace , Middlesbrough FC and Nottingham Forest took the free places. From the First Division in the third-rate Football League Second Division of had to FC Brentford , Cambridge United and Bristol Rovers relegated. Instead of these three clubs, the second division champions Stoke City and the Bolton Wanderers behind them and the play-off winners West Bromwich Albion took the free places in the following season 1993/94 .

From this season onwards, the number of goals scored, then the lower number of goals conceded, applies in the event of a tie.
