^ Football League First Division 1900/01
The Football League Second Division 1900/01 was the ninth season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . Second division champion was Grimsby Town and also the second-placed Small Heath rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1901/02, the two first division clubs Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion, ranked in the table below, took the places.
FC Walsall had to relegate from the Second Division and New Brighton Tower broke up in the summer of 1901. In addition, the Burton Swifts worried about staying in the class, but then received enough votes in the re-election process of the league association to be allowed to participate again in the Second Division in the following 1901/02 season. The places of Walsall and New Brighton Tower were taken by newly promoted Bristol City and Doncaster Rovers .
