The Football League Second Division 1965/66 was the 63rd season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 21, 1965 and ended on May 18, 1966.

Second division champions were Manchester City and also the second-placed FC Southampton rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1966/67, the two first division clubs Northampton Town and Blackburn Rovers, ranked in the table below, took the places. From the Second Division in the Football League Third Division dismount the needed Middlesbrough FC and Leyton Orient . Instead of the two clubs, the third division winner Hull City and the third division champions FC Millwall took the vacant positions in the following season 1966/67 .
