Football League First Division 1963/64

The Football League First Division 1964/65 was the 66th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 22, 1964 and ended on April 28, 1965.

Manchester United won their sixth English championship ahead of Leeds United , who were promoted to the same point . In addition to Leeds, Sunderland AFC was also able to keep the second promoted class; instead, the Wolverhampton Wanderers and Birmingham City had to go into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Newcastle United and Northampton Town .

A total of 478 players were used, with Manchester United with 18 the fewest and Wolverhampton Wanderers with 28 the most players in league games. 112 newcomers opposed 96 footballers who last came into play in the 1964/65 season. 27 players were able to play all 42 league games of their club.

    The Manchester United championship team

The following table lists all players who played in a league game for Manchester United during the 1964/65 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
