Football League First Division 1960/61

The Football League First Division 1961/62 was the 63rd season of the highest English football league . It began on August 19, 1961 and ended on May 1, 1962.

With Ipswich Town , a second division climber surprisingly won the first English championship in the club's history. The club relegated Burnley FC by three and defending champions Tottenham Hotspur by four points to the following places. In addition to Ipswich Town, the second promoted Sheffield United could hold the class; instead Cardiff City and Chelsea FC had to move into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Liverpool and Leyton Orient .

A total of 486 players were used, with Ipswich Town with 16 the fewest and Chelsea with 30 the most players in league games. 96 newcomers opposed 97 footballers who last came into play in the 1961/62 season. 32 players were able to play all 42 league games of their club.

    The Ipswich Town championship team

The following list lists all players who were used in a league game for Ipswich Town during the 1961/62 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
