Robert Victor "Bobby" Tambling (born September 18, 1941 in Storrington , Horsham (District) ) is a former English football player and football coach .

Career

As a striker with a keen goal instinct, the Brit signed a contract with Chelsea in 1957 , first as a youth player, then in 1959 as a professional. He made his debut against West Ham United that year. On this debut he also scored his first goal. After relegation in 1962, he was appointed by the new coach Tommy Docherty as the new captain of the team. He rose again with the blues the following year. In the year of promotion Tambling also made his debut for the English national team . In November 1963 he was allowed to run against Northern Ireland . In 1965 he was the English Leaugue Cup winner with Chelsea. After he was only rarely used, he moved to Crystal Palace in 1970 . After two more missions and a goal in the national team, he went to Ireland in October 1973 to Cork Celtic, with whom he immediately became Irish champion. In 1974 he ended his pure playing career and was player-coach at Cork Celtic until 1977. In 1984 he was once again a coach at Cork City . Bobby Tambling was the Chelsea player with the most goals in all competitions for the CFC until May 11, 2013, namely 202. He was replaced by Frank Lampard .
