The Football League First Division 1982/83 was the 84th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 28, 1982 and ended on May 14, 1983.
The Liverpool won with eleven points ahead of newly promoted Watford FC 's now 14 Championship and defended the title from the previous year. Closely behind were the new FA Cup winners Manchester United as well as Tottenham Hotspur , Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa . In addition to Watford, the other two promoted Norwich City and Luton Town could keep the class; instead, Manchester City , Swansea City and Brighton & Hove Albion had to move into the Second Division . These three clubs should be replaced in the following season by the three second division promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers , Queens Park Rangers and Leicester City .
A total of 486 players were used, with Liverpool FC with 16 the fewest and Birmingham City with 30 the most players in league games. 98 newcomers were opposed to 109 footballers who last came into play in the 1982/83 season. 20 players were able to play all 42 league games of their club.

The championship team of Liverpool FC
The following table lists all players who played in a league game for Liverpool FC during the 1982/83 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
