Football League First Division 1986/87

The Football League First Division 1987/88 was the 89th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 15, 1987 and ended on May 15, 1988.

The Liverpool won with nine points ahead of Manchester United 's now 17th championship. Nottingham Forest and defending champions Everton were behind, with a more or less significant deficit . Of the two climbers Derby County and Portsmouth FC , only Derby could hold the class with a narrow margin of one point. In addition to Portsmouth, Chelsea FC (after a defeat in the play-off final against second division club Middlesbrough FC ), Watford FC and Oxford United had to go to the second division . Because of the subsequent league downsizing from 21 to 20 teams, the four relegated teams only faced the three second division promoted Millwall , Aston Villa and Middlesbrough FC for the following season .

A total of 482 players were used, with Southampton FC with 19 the fewest and Tottenham Hotspur with 28 the most players in league games. 92 newcomers opposed 112 footballers, who last came into play in the 1987/88 season. 21 players were able to play all 40 league games of their club.

The championship team of Liverpool FC

The following list lists all players who played in a league game for Liverpool FC during the 1987/88 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
