Football League First Division 1971/72

The Football League First Division 1972/73 was the 74th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 12, 1972 and ended on May 9, 1973.

The Liverpool won three points clear of Arsenal FC 's now eighth English championship. Both newly promoted Birmingham City and Norwich City could hold the class; instead, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion had to move into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Burnley FC and Queens Park Rangers .

A total of 484 players were used, with Liverpool FC with 16 the fewest and Manchester United and Chelsea FC with 29 the most players in league games. 99 newcomers opposed 81 footballers, who last came into play in the 1972/73 season. 22 players were able to play all 42 league games in their club.

The championship team of Liverpool FC

The following list lists all players who played in a league game for Liverpool FC during the 1972/73 season. It must be noted that in English football a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
