James "Jimmy" Greenhoff (born June 19, 1946 in Barnsley , South Yorkshire ) is a retired English football player .

Athletic career

Greenhoff started his career in 1961 in the youth of Leeds United . In 1963 he played his first game with the club's professional team. With the club he won the trade fair cup in 1968 , when Ferencváros Budapest was defeated with a 1-0 home win and a 0-0 in Budapest . However, Greenhoff only came on as a substitute in the first leg, having moved to Birmingham City for £ 70,000 in the summer, before the second leg .

However, after just a year he left Birmingham City to join Stoke City for a £ 100,000 transfer fee. There he was part of the team that won the League Cup against Chelsea in 1972 . After 274 games in which 76 goals were scored, he went to Manchester United in November 1976 , where his younger brother Brian was already playing. There he formed the storm duo with Stuart Pearson and in 1977 won the FA Cup against Liverpool . Above all, his direct acceptances led to goals worth seeing and made him one of the most popular players at ManU. In 1979 he was voted Player of the Year by the club's supporters.

After a short detour to Crewe Alexandra from December 1980, Greenhoff moved to Toronto Blizzard in March 1981 in the NASL . He returned to England in the summer to join FC Port Vale . In the spring of 1983 he went to Rochdale AFC as a player- coach before returning to Port Vale in 1984 as a coach.

Although the striker was called up several times for youth international matches in England's junior national teams, he was not invited to the senior national team .
