Football League First Division 1956/57

The Football League First Division 1957/58 was the 59th season of the highest English football league . It began on August 24, 1957 and ended on April 30, 1958.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers won the second English championship in their club history with five points ahead of Preston North End . Both newly promoted Nottingham Forest and Leicester City were able to hold the class; instead, Sunderland AFC and Sheffield Wednesday had to move into the Second Division . These two clubs should be replaced in the following season by the two second division promoted Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United .

A total of 529 players were used, with Preston North End with 18 the fewest and Manchester United with 31 the most players in league games. 124 newcomers opposed the same number of footballers who last came into play in the 1957/58 season. 12 players were able to play all 42 league games in their club.

    The Wolverhampton Wanderers' championship team

The following list lists all players who were used in a league game for the Wolverhampton Wanderers during the 1957/58 season. In English football, a minimum number of games is usually required in order to receive the official championship medal. Since there was uncertainty about the specific regulation before the introduction of the Premier League, all players who presumably did not receive a championship medal due to their low contribution were marked with an asterisk (*). The number of missions and the goals scored are given in brackets.
