European Champion Clubs' Cup 1957/58

The European Cup of National Champions 1958/59 was the 4th edition of the competition. 26 club teams took part, including 25 national champions from the previous season and, with Atlético Madrid, the runner-up in the Spanish league, as Spanish champions Real Madrid were automatically qualified as defending champions.

The participants played in a pure cup mode with (except for the finals) back and forth games for the crown of European club football. In the event of a tie, there was a playoff in a neutral place. With the exception of Real Madrid , Wolverhampton Wanderers , ZDNA Sofia and HPS Helsinki , the clubs had to start in the preliminary round.

The final took place on June 3, 1959 in the Neckar Stadium in Stuttgart in front of 80,000 spectators. It was a remake of the very first European Cup final : Real Madrid won the Cup 2-0 against Stade Reims for the fourth time in a row. The top scorer was Just Fontaine von Stade Reims with ten goals.
