Michel Leblond

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michel Leblond (born May 10, 1932 in Reims , † December 17, 2009 there ) was a French football player .

The club career

Michel Leblond belonged for more than a decade to Stade de Reims , the then flagship of French and European football, from whose youth he came. As early as 1950 he was named the best young player in the country, but his coach Albert Batteux carefully built up the striker : he made his first appearances in Division 1 in the 1949/50 season, he only became an undisputed regular player in 1953/54. At this point, however, he had already become both French champions and cup winners . In 1954 Leblond was also appointed to the senior national team for the first time, after he had already participated in the 1952 Olympic football tournament.

In addition to his more well-known teammates such as Kopa , Fontaine , Marche or Piantoni , the young Reimser developed into an indispensable support in his coach's concept. Although he was more of a game designer than a goal getter, he was a reliable size and always good for a hit. In 1956 and 1959 he reached the European Cup final with Stade , also scoring a goal in the 3: 4 against Real Madrid in its first edition .

From 1958 coach Batteux used him as a left runner , and Michel Leblond, together with Armand Penverne and Robert Jonquet, formed a line of runners in a class of their own. At the end of the 1960/61 season, after 271 first division, 18 European Cup and four international matches, he ended his career in his hometown, not without adding three more championship titles and a second cup victory to his early titles, and switched to racing Strasbourg , for which he played in the top division until 1964.

Life after football

Like many of his teammates from Reims, he was employed by Raymond Kopa in setting up the French sales organization of the sporting goods manufacturer Adidas ; In 1964 he took over from Just Fontaine, representing them in eastern France.
